Smith
Lake is a treat in itself. Whether you are there for the fishing,
boating, skiing, sailing, swimming, or just watching the water. It will
be a vacation that you remember.
The lake was created in 1961 with the
completion of Smith Dam. The lake is 21,200 acres with over 500 miles
of shoreline. It is home to several types of fish among those being
largemouth/striped bass,
black crappie, bluegill, and channel catfish.It is ranked as the number
one lake in Alabama for
spotted bass fishing and number three for crappie. Five world record
catches for spotted bass is held by Smith Lake; a state record was set
by a 32.8 stripped bass catch.
The lake is
conveniently located about half way between
Huntsville/Decatur and Birmingham,
just west of Cullman. |
